In 1986 Karen Olson founded the first chapter of Family Promise in Summit, New Jersey as a unique response to family homelessness. Today the organization has grown to 139 chapters, 120,000 volunteers, and 5000 faith communities providing help to homeless families throughout our nation. Family Promise has helped over 31,000 family members, 60% of which are children since the inception of the mission.

Almost two years ago, planning began in our community for Family Promise of SPBC.    Why you might ask?  Data provided by the Palm Beach County School District offer these sobering statistics:

•In the 2007-2008 school year, 185 public schools (96%) reported at least one family experiencing homelessness.

•In previous years, 550 children have been reported homeless in South PBC on any given day.

•Over 2,200 homeless children throughout all of Palm Beach County.

While these numbers are very frightening, a number of local congregations have banded together to provide supportive services for homeless families with children to put them on the path to independence, through the creation of our own local Family Promise Network.

We are looking at operating expenses of $189,000 our first year, and we are prayerfully requesting you consider being part of this wonderful mission!

We would like to offer membership into CLUB252 for those with the desire and the heart to help Family Promise succeed in South Palm Beach County.  For a donation of $252 a year, you can help these families get back on their feet.  Your contribution will directly fund the operating expenses at the Family Promise Day Center, and we’re looking for 750 congregation families to step up to this challenge!  Can you be one of them?!

Through the end of December 2008, we are accepting Charter Memberships for CLUB252.  This means that those that join this  will be part of the leadership effort as we begin serving homeless families in our community.
